Need of a starter

I am need of a starter for a '62 Johnson 75hp (v4sl-14). other then a marina or ebay does anyone know where i can find one. Or should i just rebuild mine.

If someone local can rebuild it I woud go that way, should be much less than a replacemn.t

Depends. How is the gear on the end of the armature shaft? If it is shot, it would require $$ replacement. Also, if the armature and/or fields are burnt up, it is also a case for replacing the whole starter instead of trying to fix it.

just needed new brushes and bushings so I rebuilt it myself the cost for parts was about $6. found out I also had to replace the woodruff key for flywheel no wonder the #%%^&&%$$^^%^* thing would not start

If the key was sheared, the flywheel was probably not correctly installed (torqued, clean, dry tapers). Incorrect flywheel installation can damage/destroy the flywheel and/or crankshaft.

Yeah, somehow mine lost it's key and I guess it wasn't torqued enough. I found that my Dewault Grinder wheel tool fit right in two of the wholes on the flywheel so I was able to properly torque to 50 lbs.
