Hi, as you can see from my sig, I have a '82 Renken cuddy cabin with a blown up 229. The block froze and broke the block, thats the only thing wrong with that. There is some other problems with it, but the bottom line is I never likes the boat, it is too much for my wife and I to manuver around and it drafts too deep for where I go. I would like your advice on if I should
a) sell the boat as is for around $2500 obo ('97 model lode rite trailer included)
b) get a junkyard 4.3 and repower it with that to sell - would have to replace freeze plugs and possibly the head gaskets and buy a new distributor.
c) I have found a very used salt water 229 for sale with the intermediate housing for 500 bucks, but it is a long drive from here. I could swap my carb and dist on and hopefully it would run. then sell that.

My friend wants me to convert it to outboard, which sounds cool except for I have had horrible luck with the boat and dont really like it. I just want a little fishing boat and to be rid of this thing. I sunk almost 6K in this thing (paid 5500 for it) and only had one day of good tubing on it before it got cold and froze the block. That was my fault for making sure all the water wasnt out of it, but I just want to cut my losses at this point. Please give me advice on which path to take and what I should ask for it.

honestly time is money mand and if your a busy guy dump it if you have the time try some things. But ive first hand experienced the same thing you should really let it go cause repowering it isnt going to get you too far i say sell it.

Sell the whole mess or if you are not in too much of a hurry, part it out.

Re: Need opinion, repower or sell cheap

The advice about parting it out sounds pretty good. I parted out a wrecked mustang once. I gave the guy 550 bucks for it and after getting lots of parts I needed off of it, I made around 1400 bucks on the rest of it. I doubt it will be quite that good here, but it might not be bad. There are some good parts in the motor, but if someone was to repower it, they would want to put a 350 or 4.3 in. So, I could sell the rotating assy and the distributor and stuff like that that I know is good. Thanks for the advise guys!
