What is the success on this forum using the Clymer books for your outboard engines? Are these books generally reliable? Or am I asking for more trouble trying to follow a Clymer's book? Thank you in advance for your input.

Have used their manuals on Mercury, Johnson/Evinrude outboards, and OMC sterndrives.

Saved me from many mistakes. Highly recommend them.

Re: Need opinions on Clymer's books

I've read several posts within this forum on the subject (try a "search" yourself). They seem to be better than Seloc, but the OEM manual is #1. Problem with them though, although they give you your exact engine drawings/specs. They are not as descriptive, for us non-professional mechanic types. I use both myself, plenty of good reading material.............. One for general repair procedures, and one with pictures and diagrams that actually looks like what I'm working on!

Re: Need opinions on Clymer's books

Hi Shack
I own and use all manuals also. In my opinion all manuals are exellent. The problem most folks have with multi model books is they don't take time to read or get to know the book. Then because they don't know one motor from the next, they become overwhelmed. They buy the book and expect it to be some sort of magic wand they can wave over the motor and in five min. be water skiing. Quite a few OEM publications use this same format. When I only had one manual they were either clymer or seloc brands. For the casual user, you get more info for the buck. Just like these darn computers once you know how to use them, it's a snap.
