found a wizard at yard sale. I believe it is a 1962, no tag. My limited research says it was made by mccullough. might be wrong. anyway no spark. filed points, new condensor, still no fire. might be the coil but I don't know where to find one. there is a number on the coil fg 3689. on the points it is stamped fg 3690 and a symbol, u sigma letter u. sigma like an E. any help appreciated as usual.

The good news is the carbs and electrical systems were common to many engines and parts can be found. The bad news is I don't recall where right at the moment.

A picture might help with the ID.

If it is indeed the coil you can do an OMC coil transplant providing you have the right field. Those Scott, Firestone, ect. motors had a few coil field sizes and some of the fields will accept an OMC coil (slide it off the OMC field and onto the other). Even if you have the larger field that does not accept the OMC field you can substitute the smaller one if you can find one. I've done it a few times and it always works. For the real details check out (on line) Oddjob motors. The writer Max M. has the details and he's also entertaining. I have two 3.6 motors; a 61 or 2 Scotty (with a McCullough sticker on it) and a 48 3.6 Scott Atwater. The newer one I had to do the coil transplant on and the older one they coil was good (go figure). I'm still having carburetor problems with both but I think when I solve it (winter projects) they'll be great little motors. Good luck!

Thanks F_R, yes laing's has them. and 2cycle that is great info, as I have some omc coils that tested good. cMc is the symbol for mccolloch however you spell it. will try the coil swap first. hope the plug wire just screws off like the omc's. I'm not sure about setting the air gap for magnets but will try to do the same as it is now just eyeballing it. if I can get it to spark and run, then I'll investigate an elgin I saw on craigs list for $25. Thanks again guys!

Yes the omc coil transplant will work with some filing, grinding, hammering, swearing, and patience. I have spark now! yeehaw!
