I purchased a 2002 Chaparral with a 5.7 Gi-B. In 2007, Volvo provided me a new long block after a failure of the cooling system in the original engine. Now I'm not sure what plugs I should run in it. Would prefer NGK's but don't know which ones will work.
Also, I'm thinking it's time to change out the original spark plug wires and was wondering if anyone knew the proper replacement part number.
Thanks,
Pat

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... The AC plugs should be MR43TLS,... Donno the NGK #s...

I'd Ohm the plug wires, 'n see how they're holdin' up, before I went, 'n just replaced 'em...

Boat plug wires don't see the heat automotive wires do, 'n hold up for a long Long time...

Thanks much Bond-o. As far as ohm'n the wires, can I get some specs as to what they should be. Is it a variance that I should be looking for between wires or is it length dependent so it is something that is calulated?

This is from the OEM service manual for your engine. Notice the spark plug type is AC TJ14R-P15 not the MR43LTS. the latter is for a carbed engine, not EFI.

If the plug wires are firing, and the outer covering and boots are not damaged, and the ends aren't corroded, you should be fine. As Bondo stated, without all the heat automotive wires get, they don't fail very often.
But, it's a good idea to replace the cap and rotor as part of a tuneup.
