I damaged about 3-6 percent of my prop (or 6-12 percent of two blades, one is fine) on the lake today when the anchor hit it, our fault. Is this a serious issue that need to be fixed or should I let i go. If fixing it is the answer, what size do i use for a 18 ft heavy bay boat (1985 Liberty)? They one I have now is or was fast(55mph with tilt at 20%) but it is a turbo prop and I might want more torque if plan to hit Jetty right? Thanks

For anyone who read this and may of had similar questions, I asked a mechanic. Yes a damaged prop is not good regardless of how well it moves the boat. It causes engine damage from vibration. Luckily, rather than forking out $350 for a new one or $120 for an aluminun one, I found a prop shop that will weld the missing pieces back reshape and polish it to a new stainless finish for $80. They're also going to re-cup the prop to give me more torque, from a dead start. I have never in my life before now heard of a prop shop. Pretty cool .

The changes you are having made to your prop may not allow the engine to achieve the suggested rpm's at wide open throttle(WOT). Please make sure you monitor this and change props if your are unable to get into the range. Running a motor with too much pitch will place additional strains and cause your motor to reach and early death.

Thanks Rndn. I will make sue that it gets at least 5500-5600 at WOT. If not, they will take the cuping out for me. I was having a cavitation problem. Often, I'd hit the gas and the prop wouldn't hook up. Water would just spay out behind the boat and I'd be stuck at 10-15mph. They said it would help. We'll see. Thanks
