Looking for some assistance determining the best prop for my setup.

Basics:
16' Tracker Pro Team 165 w/ Merc. 9.9hp
- Net Wgt: 560lbs
- Max Wgt, ppl + Gear: 860lbs

Current Prop: 3 x 9" x 9" (9 Pitch)
Current WOT Speed: 7.8 (GPS determined)
Current WOT RPM in gear: 3300rpm
Motor's rated operating RPM: 5000-6000

I can rev the motor up to 5k easy when not in gear. (I am stuck using the 9.9hp on this heavy boat due to local reservoir restrictions, otherwise there would be a 50hp on there) Motor runs great, I just want to make sure I dont burn it up running too high a pitch. 3300 rpms at WOT is probably not a good idea.

Any suggestions on what would be a better match. Not concerned as much with speed, just longevity of the motor.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Need Prop Advice

Merlin my program says you need a 5" pitch prop which should get you to about 5,200 RPM.

Thank you! You dont think that would be so low that the overall performance would suffer? I was thinking maybe 9.75 x 6.5. It still wont get up to 5-6000, but I was worried going too low would drop the already low speed too much.

What do you think?

Re: Need Prop Advice

If you buy this prop you will have no problems it has a 10" diameter and 4 blades so it will push much better than the one you had and will get close to your max RPM.

Thanks again for the information....however, I dont think I can fit a 10" under the cav plate. It is exactly 5" from hub center to cav plate.

I didn't say I don't trust you, just that I measured and found 5" from hub center touches the cav plate. Also, I didn't see anywhere that specified this was a match for my specific motor. Do you have a link to where this prop is listed with my motor specifically?

Not to sound rude, but I am going to do my research before I buy a prop as money isn't as easy to come by these days and I cant afford to buy more than one.

That being said, I came to this site because I noticed there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here who could probably help me. If I am not allowed to ask questions, I will go elsewhere.

hey no biggie, you can go to top of this page in the blue bar it says boat propellers: double click there and go over to outboard put mercury in the box where is says make. put in 2000 in year box and 9.9 in horsepower. then you click on 2 stroke with through hub exaust. and your optoins will appear and youl see 5" pitch click on that and youl see for yourself. not allowed to ask questions. thats what were here for.LOL

Re: Need Prop Advice

When I recommended this prop I went by what Iboat says, I personally don't know so you might call them to make sure.
