I have a guy who wants to trade me for an old tractor or two I have for a 1967 MFG fiberglass runabout with a late 80's merc 35 with a broken water pump. I know nothing about this boat at all. I am a tin guy and I really like to find a traditional fishing boat. I know I can fish off anything and the price is right but what is the up and down sides of a boat like this? I love the classic looks of old boats but fiberglass I know nothing about. What do I need to look for when I go see it? I am moving furniture now and will be contacting him in the next hour or two. any insight is appreciated!

Is it the tri-hull? they were basic entry-level boats back in the day. Don't "pay" too much for it.

I am trading some classic lawn tractors I have I bought to restore. I need a boat more and it is a straight across trade and I dont think it is a tri hull just standard V....

if its been kept up then should be fine.. i would check out the floor and see if its spongy i would also check the transome for signs of water...why?

becasue to fix the floor and possible transom you will need to become a fiberglass guy pretty quickly... and the costs for restoring floors and transoms may exceed the trade costs bt a couple of thousand dollars..

if you know anyone with a boat who has some knowledge than take them with you..

late 80s engine isnt a big deal and a water pump is short money if you know what you are doing..

there is some risk but risk is in every boat you get..
