Hi,
I live in San Diego, and have Bayliner Capri 1987, 19 feet (with Volvo Penta AQ131a and 275 outdrive), mostly ocean use, that needs "new marine vinyl". No rips, but the sun burned the cover a couple a years ago, while boat was in storage, and original vinyl started cracking on top. Over the years it just got worse and worse, to the point that I'm thinking of replace it.
I wonder how much would it cost to re-upholst it? 3 colors as original, maybe 2 colors. Or some two or three colors, some, more complicated, in one color.
Money is an issue, so I would like to do it on the cheaper side.
Does anybody know a descent place in or near San Diego, or Tijuana (Mexico) that can do this?
I was also thinking to, maybe, do simpler thing myself, and leave complicated stuff, like dual seats, to expert. I saw a couple of youtube videos about sawing seat vinyl, using cord for edges and seams. Seams to me that for straight seams I can do it (for rear seat bottoms, and bow pieces). I have ordinary, older type, Singer sewing machine. Can this one, with a proper needle and thread, do this sawing? Or would I need specialized machine for this?
Is there a local (SD, CA) place or what is the best (cheapest with descent quality) online place to by vinyl, cording, thread... ? On eBay I can find , for example, marine vinyl for about $.5.5 a yard x 54in I believe + shipping (that is not cheap)
Is there a place that will do sawing, and ship it to me, ready for stapling?
And the last question, can I use hand stapler, like from home depot. I'm not sure if they sell stainless steel "ammunition" for it. Or do I need something bigger and stronger?
Thank for all your input, hope that other boaters (with old boats) will have use from this post!
