Hey guys I'm about to drop 5 bills on a new finder.. I'm looking for something that will distinguish soft from hard bottom, pick up fish when there are actually fish, and just a good quality finder. I'm fishing fresh water from 5-100 fow. mostly after walleye. The lowrance x510c looks to have all the features I'll ever need but need some of your reviews. Also open to any other suggestions. thanks a bunch Jason

Re: Need reviews on Lowrance x510c sonar..

I have the 510c. It locks up and freezes in auto mode, in shallow water 4ft or less. Sent the graph in to Lowrance with the transducer for repair. Got a new tranducer and same head unit back tested. Still the same problem. Called Lowrance today talked to a tech he had me take it out of auto mode and set it to two different scales both for shallow water and deep water. have yet to try it out, using the scroll in and out buttons to switch from deep to shallow. I don`t think I`m going to like it. But if the graph works good maybe. I told the tech that people are jumping to Humminbird Lowrance needs to fix their soft ware. I had a Lowrance X75 and upgraded to the 510c. I like the X75 better. Take a second look at Humminbird wish I had. The Humminbird 777c is the equivalent to the Lowrance 510c.
So far I`m disappointed with the X510c. Lowrance had a better product a few years back. Humminbirds product was not so good a few years back, now people who have humminbirds like them. I already had the holes in my boat to suit Lowrance products and on past experience Lowrance was great. Not so sure now. $500.00 is tough to eat and I might have just done that.
Wish my graph looked as good as it does in the simulator mode, not even close!

thanks whofan for the reply..Do you think that maybe you got a lemon. and if I'm understanding you correctly your saying the sonar is not near as crisp as the simulator suggests.

I guess the Eagle is a little lower in quality than the Lowrance, but was all I could afford. I got the Fishelite 500c and have used it for the past 2 months. Lots of sand out here but the swiss cheese hard bottom shows up in the 40-60' range real well. Like the gps features as well. Got it off ebay for $410. 5" screen and good contrast. Really happy so far.

If I got a lemon I have just one of the many. I had a Lowrance X75 that worked in auto mode flawlessly in all conditions at all depths and water clarity. Lowrance gained color, pixels and defnition in their new graphs but they have bugs that are not worked out, and it looks as though Lowrance are either sidestepping them or denying them. Going into weedy shallow water graph flashes depth and locks up. not good. Do some research on other forums. I`m not alone. I want my x75 back !

Check this out. same problem I have: http://www.idofishing.com/forum/showflat.php/Number/687909/fpart/1/lowrance-ducer-issue
