The ID tag is missing from my transom bracket (Evinrude XP 150, late 80s). The big problem here is that I can’t register my new-to-me boat without the serial number. I’ve been told that the silver plug showed my serial number, but to complicate things I’ve found a couple other numbers on my engine. Now I’m unsure which one is possibly the serial number. What do you think? I REALLY don’t want to tell the DNR a wrong SN. Help, please!?!?

Well-----RPH -----Clearly indicates that the powerhead has been replaced.-----Factory REBUILT POWER HEAD-----Hence the RPH.------Second picture shows a " casting number " that identifies the part it is on.-----Most parts have a 6 digit casting number.

That number below the RPH would be the serial # of the replacement powerhead.

I’ll be calling Evinrude tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll be able to help figure out this debacle, and possibly get me a new serial number tag issued? That would be most excellent.
