need small cheap computer

The discussion on another thread regarding security cameras has got me to thinking about setting up a few IP cameras around here on their own network. I've also been thinking about getting a small PC to leave on all the time, hooked up to my TV in my bedroom to run some small things like streaming music or to check weather radar quickly for plowing in the winter. Pretty lightweight programs and browsing.

I've seen some small computers that lack all the bells and whistles. Basically just about the size of a cigar box that seem popular for bedrooms and such. What are these called? I think they would be perfect for what I want to do but I can't seem to find them at local stores. Anyone know where to get them, or what they are called?

Not a computer but you may check out the Roku box. It is a streaming device that you hook to your TV. It has all major streaming apps like Pandora, Netflix, Hulu +, VUDU, and many others. This can be had for the awesome low price of $49

They are called "Netbooks" One step above a tablet and one step below a laptop.

Thanks. I have a netbook, I'm looking for basically a CPU in a box, external keyboard and mouse. I appreciate your help tho.

I'll check the links when I get home and on a real computer.

You probably want something like a Shuttle. If you want to keep the noise down, get a SSD.

If its going to be in a bedroom you want something with very little fan noise.

Or something fanless like this:

Mac Mini. Add in Airplay and Apple TV and you've got some pretty cool connectivity going on.
