I have a 1988 Evinrude 75 hp that locked up on me. Cost to re-build 1000-1500 by professional, probably about 1/2 if I do it myself which I've never done before. The advice I'm seeking is should I even fool with with this late of a model motor or cut my losses and get something new or at least newer? I only have 1500 in the whole boat motor and trailer and am really torn on taking a chance with re-building and possibly having more things go wrong with an old motor or just bite the bullet and get into the 21st century. Any expert opinions greatly appreciated.
