Hello, I am looking at possibly getting a used 9.9 Johnson outboard which is selling for $350.00 which initially I thought was a really good price but after reading the details of the ad the motor doesnt have the tiller handle..Apparently the motor was used on a small hydroplane boat and used steering wheel controls. So my questions are is $350.00 a good investment for this type of motor without the tiller and is it a big job to putting a tiller arm on and are they available at a reasonable cost?

Thank you,

Terry

A tiller handle by itself may run you $100.00, or you may be able to find a scrap donor motor and get the handle off it, but that will still cost money.

You should easily be able to find a complete tiller motor in good condition for about the same price as this one.

What year is the motor? Regardless I would check it out very thoroughly as I imagine it was run hard.
