Hi, everyone! I recently bought a jon boat listed on craigslist that I wanted and got this motor with it. I can't say I went really looking for this motor but now I've got it. It has a replacement powerhead, and no model or serial number. I don't even know what year it is or anything about it other than it runs pretty good, at least out of the water. Any help in id'ing this thing would sure be appreciated. Thanks in advance for looking. You can click on the pics to get the bigger version.

looks to me like an '89 or '90. Check one of the freeze plugs (think I see one at the rear of the engine) for a model number.

Hi, the freeze plug started with RXXXXXXX which I understand is a replacement number. The powerhead looks a lot newer than the rest of the motor so it makes sense...

Re: Need some help identifying Evinrude

Where to find your model number:

Johnson/Evinrude Outboards:
The model number tag is located on the top outside edge of the CLAMP BRACKET; or, on top of the SWIVEL BRACKET HOUSING (port or starboard). It's usually a metal tag or a sticker. Often there is a quarter size silver piece with numbers stamped on it.

If you're still unable to find a model number on your engine, (sometimes will be worn off or scratched off), there is a silver core plug on top of powerhead with model and serial # or p/n on power pack can help with determining the year.

Also check on the welsh plug (freeze plug) on the block (power head) for numbers/letters. (If powerhead has been rebuilt or replaced this probably won't help you. (Will only reveal the part number of the new, not original powerhead.

if it is any help 89 was that last year with that type of tiller. on the 90 model the gear shift was moved around to the front. also the decals seem to match a 89 through 91 model. and the only one with that tiller was the 89 model.
