I took my tilt motor off and it is shot totally I am going to replace it. I would like to take the clutch cover off and clean up the inside worm gears etc. I am not a boat mechanic I am a car mechanic but not a boat I have the books but I am hesitant to open the cover. Can anyone help me with this> I also remove the selectrim motor and the motor is fine but the bearings and the gear is frozen I never use the boat I was too busy with my children now there are gone I have to clean the boat up and learn about the systems. I am a old Army capt so I am not Navy but I love the water. I am disable but I can still enjoy things and would like to put my boat back in shape. If anyone can help I can be reach at EDIT. Thanks

nothing much to taking the clutch cover off.... just 4 bolts and remove it. solvent or brake clean or whatever to clean in there.
some repack with grease.
I prefer a 85W140 gear oil. keeps water out almost as well as grease, and that system just doesn't need the added drag of grease.
use a new gasket on the cover, with the oring, not just sealant. the gasket is an important shim for gear clearance

OMC factory manual is really good... aftermarket ones are usually spotty

where is 210 coming from?

if your outdrive says 210 on it, it is from a V8 - could be wrong gear ratio for your engine

Next to the throttle lever there is a plate and on the plate is 210 Fish I/O. On the transom of the boat there is another plate with the inscription SCR810091080 1981 Model. The outdrive have a plate on the starboard side and here are the numbers off that plate Ser# W233107 and Model# is 982460. Everything on the boat is the original. I had it New but was unable to use it before now because of many things but now I am going to use it but I must fix somethings first from the boat sitting so long I use to run it but I got sick and now I can do it again.Thank you for any help you can offer Cpttrevor.

Anyone can tell me how to remove the upper and lower needle bearings from the selectrim housing of OMC stern drive 140 4cylinder engine. This is the front motor mount the mechanism that holds the front of the engine up. I noticed in the manual they have special tools but I don't have those tools can another method be used? Can anyone offer any advise Thanking in advance. Cpttrevor

Took care of most of the problems but would like to know if anyone has ever changed their own shift cable in the outdrive and where can I get the special tool from to do the job. I am not a boat mechanic but a car mechanic and have plenty of know how about cars and mechanical things. Also i changed the lube in the Upper gearcase and it was in some instances had a black streak coming out with the old lube is this normal? The manual say do not use SAE 90 lube but when I went to West Marine and ask the gentleman told me I can use High performance SAE 90 because I do not have an electric shift. I don't want to use the wrong lube can anyone confirm? Cpttrevor
