Bad ignition switch, bad solenoid, or wiring issue that is putting 12 volts on the start terminal on the solenoid. Just so to make you feel better, I was standing in my garage years ago when my wife came out and said who is trying to start the car. To my surprise, my 1985 Chrysler New Yorker starter was happily spinning the engine over. I said this can't be happening as I pulled the keys from my pocket. I had parked the car in the street a bit earlier and a passing truck hauling a big dozer had apparently jiggled the car and a bad solenoid engaged the now bad solenoid.
