This afternoon we took our 16ft runabout out with our new transom mount trolling motor. steering was not an issue, but trying to keep the motor from coming loose from the back of the boat was. I mounted the trolling motor to the left of the gas motor and everytime I turned the trolling motor on it came loose from the boat. If my memory serves me correctly I read somewhere that you can buy a bracket for a pontoon that will make it possible to mount a transom mount trolling motor to the front of the boat, if this is true can someone please tell me the name of the bracket? I tried to mount it to the front using just the transom mount and the gap is not wide enough to sit down over the front edge of the boat.....any insight is greatly appreciated

thanks,
Christal

If the motor came loose you simply did not have the clamp screws tight enough. Also realize that mounting the motor on the front of the boat means you need to turn the head around 180 degrees because the tiller handle will be pointing forward. Not very convenient for operation.

I had the same problem, i drilled a hole in the trolling motor back plate (arrow). Then screwed it down with one stainless wood screw. Works good.
