Once again need your advice folks :)
In order to balance my inflatable I need to move my fuel tan to the front. I like to extend the fuel line but I not sure if I need some special type, The guy in auto parts store told me that I need marine grade and in marine supply store they were out of stock but wanted to sell me just regular type.

Who is right ?

Thanks

Re: Need to extend fuel line

i'd just use stock fuel line the right diameter for the engine. i would use some of the corrigated plastic electrical protector stuff, thats split so you can slip it over the hose for protection. comes in several diameters i guess it's called wire protector.

Life, There is fuel line made specifically for outboard usage. I recommend a one piece fuel line if possible to cut down on the posibility of leaks.

Re: Need to extend fuel line

Any auto grade line OK for OB"s. Just get the right I.D.diameter, and corresponding double ended brass hose barb..any auto store..don't sweat it (done it on my OB boats for YEARS!) I/O's different story. That Marine grade of 3/8's I.D. has an O.D. of damn near 3/4 inch. For the CG regulated flame retardant to let ya get yer butt off the boat and away..and only used for tank to filter ONLY. Any pressure should be solid line.

Re: Need to extend fuel line

OK,
I extended the hose to 9FT ( no leaks ) but I have now problem to start the outboard :( It runs great after it gets started but every time I stop it it is hard to start ( cold or hot) I noticed that the prime bulb gets soft within couple of minutes of stopping the motor - is this my problem ?

Thanks

Hose length probably doesn't have anything to do with that. Is your tank vent free and clear? My vent had some corrosion that blocked it up. After cleaning all was good again.

Re: Need to extend fuel line

Tank is brand new( all plastic)
I had the tank only 1/5 filled, can this cause the problem ?

Thanks

Could be, if the pickup isn't deep enough. There's an easy way to find out, though. Fill up the tank. Also, if the tank isn't level, that could cause the same situation if it's that low. Again, fill the tank and try again.

Re: Need to extend fuel line

I'll do that this evening ...
Should the priming bulb stay hard on it's own after firs pumping
or it will loose pressure after the motor starts running ?
Also just out of curiosity ...what would be symptoms
NOT enough gas
Too much gas (flooded) ?

Thanks

Re: Need to extend fuel line

this is one of the problems we run into with the aftermarket plastic tanks, yes be bulb will get soft after starting as the carb float opens, to allow more fuel in and the fuel pump sucks gas from the tank. both symptoms is hard to start. just remember to pump the bulb before trying to start, the back pressure check valve in the bulb may be leaking. especially if it is not the oem, bulb.

Re: Need to extend fuel line

It it the gas tank and hose that I got with my new Suzuki :(
The only thing I changed was the hose that comes from tank to primer bulb.

Drives me crazy !
Is there any way to avoid priming before every start (unless the tank or motor gets disconnected.) Don't mind priming on the first start ... but every time ? ... that sucks :)

Normally, you shouldn't have to pump the bulb except for the first start of the day, unless you run the carb's float bowl dry somehow. When you shut the engine off, the float bowl will be full. The engine should start right up without any bulb pumping.

If the fuel pump on the outboard is weak, though, you could have a problem with subsequent starts, although the engine would probably have a problem running wide open in that case.

Hmmm..., the outboard is new with about 15 hours on it ...
I'll try to fill the tank and see if this was the problem.

Thanks

Re: Need to extend fuel line

that tank need to be full, wasn't the the purpose of extending the hose, to get the weight to the front of the inflatable.

Yes, that was the purpose but I wanted to check my new smart tabs without balancing the load as well :) They work great !
I thought that 3L in the 12L OEM tank should be plenty ...perhaps not
My new bow tank (6Gal) is in the mail :)
