I recently purchase a 1990 Four Winns 205 Sundowner with a rebuilt Mercruiser engine. The starter swicth in the dashboard was removed. I got a replacement but do not know how to properly wire it. My concern is not so much with starting the engine, becaue I am afraid it was not well maintianed by the previous owner, but with elevating the rear drive of I/O so I can trailer the boat to a mechanic.

In addition, anyone recomend a reliable and honest mechanic in the Baltimore area.

Thanks for your help.

JJ

JJ,
Have you hooked up a battery and tried to raise the O/D. From what I have gathered on these boards, and from what I know on my boat, the key doesn't need to be on the raise/lower the drive. :p

No recommendations. In this area everyone is high this time of year and the work would not be the greatest due to all the people waiting for stuff to be done. If you just need a ignition switch installed get yourself a manual. Should be a piece of cake but like said before you shouldn't need a key to raise the drive. They usually use a separate line not associated with the key switch.

DHPMarine

Thanks for your response. I got Red for Battery. I am sorry for the following question but I am a novice. Is yellow/red Ignition or SOL. Does Purple get hooked up to the Ign. or Sol terminal on the Starter Switch. I also have another wire, Orange, is that part of the wiring for the starter or does it belong to something else.

Thanks for your time and consideration, I greatly apprechiate it. I will be buying a manual in the near future, once I figure out the exact make and model of the engine. Yes, I am well aware of my ignorance, but I am a quick learner.

Many Thanks,

JJ
