Checked it out yesterday, compression is 118-120 between all 4 cylinders. Tilt trim all works, shifter seems smooth and works both forward and reverse while turning the prop. I'm trading a nice 84 Honda xr 250 for it ( all options for street use)! I value the bike at around 6-8 hundred around here. What's this outboard worth?

Well, the value is exactly what you are willing to pay for it! It is difficult to properly value these older engines because there are so few of them compared to Force.

However, you are looking at a late model Chrysler with the better ignition and power tilt. A used tilt/trim assembly usually will command 3-400 alone and a lower unit at least 200. That said, complete engines usually cost less than their components.

I don't think you are getting badly hurt trading a 6-800 dollar bike ( depending upon how attached to the bike you are and what it cost you originally--etc) but it would be nicer if the control box was complete and the wires were not cut. This leaves you with extra work to do and extra money to spend. I would try to get some concession to make the price a little more attractive.

Thanks for the thoughts, I'm really not to deep in the bike so it's somewhat fair trade. The controls on the VIP that it is on just has the lever/gearshift and there was a seperate ign and tilt switch on the dash! I just wish there was a way to convert my Brp control over to the universals that the chrylser has so I could keep it all in one unit like it is now

I forgot to mention: 120 on all cylinders is a little low, Factory new was about 140, but compression results are dependent upon the gauge. As long as they are fairly equal and relatively high--not 20-60 PSI-- then the engine is probably healthy. AND, with some continuous running to deposit more oil in it, results may come up a bit.

The single lever, behind the upholstery control was nice and simple looking and took up less room than the surface mount control box--I always preferred them. HOWEVER: if it is that important to you, you can find a US Marine/Force control box on the auctions. Some of these boxes have the tilt switch built into the hand grip of the control handle--very handy as you can adjust trim with just a thumb movement. These boxes also have the ign switch built into them. And you should be able to use your existing ignition switch IF it is a six terminal, push to choke switch.
