find some more numbers like OMC model/serial numbers - might take some investigating, look the whole motor over

pictures help immensely with identifing engine/drive packages

silver would be correct for a 1984 or 1985 omc 3.8
229 cubic inch Chevrolet 90 degree v6

and is this a good boat?..worth more than 300?
not really

if you paid $300, that is exactly what it is worth

HEY!!!! Watch it! I have the 3.8 in my boat and the V6 provides great power, good fuel savings, and is easy to maintain, thank you very much! Like any boat and power plant, it is all about maintenance and condition. He never said how many hours or what condition the boat and motor were in, so hold the opinions until you have facts to back them up!

I think Howard is basically saying that the boat is worth what someone will pay for it.. He paid 300 bucks... 300 bucks is what it's worth..

It doesn't take long to have $300 worth of fun with a boat.....

He wasn't asking if yours was good - I'm sure it is nice, as are my TWO 3.8L powered boats and neither of us would sell them for $300
Maybe he got an astounding deal... but from the info given we were asked for an opinion...
All I know is the price.
Larsons of that era were nothing special - I recall plywood floors with carpet glued on

Wow, I can't remember Larsons back then being so poorly made. But then again, I leaned more towards the Cobalt, Chris Craft, and Searay brands. I don't have the boat brand knowledge you hold. And your are also correct about the 3.8L engine. I wouldn't part with it, especially now with today's fuel prices.

Re: need to know what engine i have ??

a lot of 1980's runabouts were constructed that way
The 3.8 is no more efficient than any other marine engine. HP for HP it is dead on with any 1960's design pushrod engine. i.e. not great

Mine with the 4 barrel drinks 12 to 14 gph at WOT...which is crazy amounts of gas
basically the same fuel consumption as any carbureted V6 at wot
back off on the throttle and at cruise at a speed where it's takin' 90HP to run along on plane, it uses the same as any engine making 90HP... about 5 to 7 gph

A boat with an obsolete powerplant wouldn't be worth much to me. If the original poster has not yet bought this boat, I would suggest he RUN RUN AWAY!
