Need to pull mercruiser 5.0 engine out of 1995 Reinel

It appears that a freeze plug has pushed itself out of the block in the back of the engine flywheel area. I have had it confirmed by a shop that the engine will have to come out. Shop costs are $110 an hour. I am going to do this myself. might even learn something from it. I have the outer unit pulled off already. The driveline tube and engine coupler on the back of the motor, i am totally unsure about. Pulling the motor looks ok, but i don't know much about what needs to happen on the drive end of things. The mercruiser manual is somewhat confusing. Is there any how too's available with this forum or video? Any help would be appreciated.

Disconnect the battery(ies)

You got 2 big bolts at the rear of the engine that hold it to the transom assembly . . . then you got 2 front mount nuts/bolts that you can take the nuts off. . . if the top nuts are rusted solid, then just disconnect the 2 bolts that hold the engine mounts onto the stringer (or bracket)

Disconnect the water inlet line at the transom assembly

Disconnect the gear oil reservoir line (if it has one)

disconnect the throttle and shifter . . .

disconnect the cable harness and the fuel line

loosen the exhaust tubes that lead to the "Y" pipe

Disconnect the positive lead at the starter

Disconnect the ground leads on the flywheel housing

Lift the engine out from the lifting points.

I might have forgotten something, but it is not too hard . . . just a matter of disconnecting everything and having something to lift the engine out. I used a 2 ton chain hoist on my 454 Mercruiser . . .

After looking things over, your directions look pretty much spot on from what i can see. But having never pulled a boat engine i want to be very careful. The engine coupler to the drive shaft, does it just sit up against the transom. So that when i get ready to lift the motor, i just scoot it forward a few inches?

Since you have the drive off, there is nothing inserted into the coupler so the engine just lifts up.

Take off your manifolds to make the engine lighter. Since a core plug popped out, you need to test your manifolds for freeze damage now anyway.
