Getting the boat ready for the summer. While changing the oil, the dipstick (tip broken by previous owner) got pushed down the tube. I was able to retrieve it by drilling a pilot hole, screwing in a screw, and pulling it out with pliers. I've been looking for a replacement online (OEM part number 86194215) but everywhere I go it says "NLA" or "No Longer Available." What? Given the number of videos and posts out there about retrieving broken Mercury Dipsticks I'm surprised there aren't more available. Any suggestions? Its a 2003 Sea Ray SRX with a Mercruiser, 4.3L, Carb, Thunderbolt V ignition.

I search using "Mercruiser 86194215" and found 2 on ebay for 50 and 52 dollars each

The last ditch would be to install one from a truck of given year. Change the oil by draining out the oil pan bolt. Then add 5 quarts and filter. Run it, then mark the dip stick where the full line is. Could install a drain hose in the oil pan bolt drain

Thanks AllDodge,

I think I'm going to go the truck route. I heard back from Mercury Marine and they confirmed that they no longer provide replacements for this engine. Thanks again for the info.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Is the actual inner dipstick the problem,..??

Is the Tube, Ok,..??

If so, a truck dipstick will be to short, unless ya swap the entire assembly, which probably won't clear the exhaust manifold, 'n you'll loose the ability to pump the oil sump by the dipstick tube,....

You can make a inner dipstick, with an ole piece of automotive speedo cable, or an ole Alpha inner lower shift cable, or such,....
'ell, plain ole steel cable would work,....

ive got the same issue, how did you fix that ?

Reading the replies, including the original poster, says what was suggested to replace the dipstick. The OP must be a happy boater cuz he hasn't been back with more questions.
