1) I think I can part out an old bulb (hard as a rock) I have and use the hose fitting if it is 3/8".

2) Replace bulb and if so go generic (SeaChoice, Attwood, Sierra or Moeller) or go NAME BRAND like Mercury, OMC or Yamaha ?

3) Replace whole set-up meaning hose and bulb. I am using 3/8" hose is this GOOD ? I also am using about 12' of hose. This hose and primer bulb were bought about 10 years ago and although they SEEM OK maybe it is time to change out.

Any thoughts ?

IMHO, I think BRP/OMC still make the best primer bulb.

With the distance you mentioned -- i suggest replacing in like kind ( 3/8 in. ),, upgrade to the newest and best to handle the new gas..

Normally the V6 engines require the 3/8" line.

This is a V4. I am going NEWEST but am questioning what is the best. The guy where I'm buying my NEW CDI rectifier (switching from 35amp to 10amp), says he is a marine mechanic and he would go GENERIC, that I'd be paying too much for a NAME and he doesn't see a difference. I just figure I could maybe EBAY a good deal. There were a couple of Bombardier 5/16 without hose for about $15. There is another play out there if I get the right answers I'll jump on.

A heads up on the fuel line hoses. The reputable manufacturers (like Bombardier) have converted their fuel lines again this year. They are now being made compliant to government regulations for higher ethanol in the gas. If you pull the new 2012 Bombardier hoses apart, they have a new inner hose liner which is supposed to comply with the latest government ethanol regs. The hoses have a different feel than those of the past. The thing is that these new hose assemblies are really expensive. Over $40. I'm not sure just what new fuels are available around your area-or if you need this new type hose. I'd say the price of the hose may be an indication of whether they are 2012 compatible or not.

You know what ? I went fishing for part numbers so I called Mercury and the guy made it sound to me that fuel line is fuel line and I was questioning why the big difference in price on the various hoses. He was saying Quicksilver 3/8 hose would go for $4 per foot in 100 ft rolls. I'm going to with either a BRP or Merc bulb and some very new fuel line just to be safe.
