Need Troubleshooting help

I have an '84 Mercury 90Hp Inline 6 cyl. There is no spark on cylinders 1,3,5 (they all run off the same switch box). I have switched the switch boxes around and that didn't change anything, thus ruling out a bad switch box. I tested the trigger and that passed. I also ran tests on the stator, when I went between red & ground and red/wht and ground, I got the proper reading. When I went between the red & blue and red/wht & blu/wht, I got no reading at all (open cucuit). Is it possible the stator is bad?

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Need Troubleshooting help

I'd say it's very possible the stator iz bad, Mike. In fact, I'd bet on it. ;)
Read twinsfan's "regulator problem?" post below this one.

c/6
Hooty

Re: Need Troubleshooting help

the stator red and red/white wires are high speed winding wires. they should put out 20+ volts at engine cranking speed. the blue and blue/white wire are the low speed windings and should put out 180+ volts at engine cranking speed. each trigger wire should put out 5 volt minimum. check and make sure the switch boxes have a good ground between the two before testing your voltage. you should remove the black wire with the yellow stripe from both ignition boxes too make sure you dont have an external short in the wiring harness. the ignition boxes should put out 180 volts too the ignition coils. it should be tested with a direct voltage adapter. hope this helps you out...bob. another thing...dont buy an oem stator..buy it from rapair.
