I'm getting ready to get a new boat, and I know the kids will want to wakeboard. I'll start them out on a cheap kneeboard, just to get them used to hanging on to a handle.

I have an 8y/o son, who's always been at the 97th % of height/weight - Currently tipping the scales at a lean 80 pounds.

My 7 y/o Daughter (14 months younger) has always been the 3rd % of height and weight -tipping the scales at a whopping 40 pounds.

She's got a gymnast's build, he's got a linebacker's.

Is there any way I can get her up on a 130cm+ board so that I don't have to buy TWO right away. Any advice appreciated.

If she can get up on a board at all, she will have no trouble on that board.
I have a 142 and took some poeple out the other day, my friends wife is really thin, no way she ways over 100ish. She popped right up, it was almost like a wakesurf pop up, now, control gets a little sacrificed, as well as jumping. But like you said, they are just learning and what not.
She will be fine with the board size.
Making sure the bindings will tighten down enough is what you should be concerned with. As long as both the kids can get snug in the bindings itwill be fine for learning on.

My wife, 2 boys and I all use the same CWB Pure 141 board with no issues. It's quite a bit bigger than they would recomend for my wife but she has no issues with it. There seems to be a pretty wide range that a board will work.

Agreed, my girlfriend and I used my 140 for a while until she progressed to the point of needing her own. Just make sure you get bindings that will tighten up or the little one will have NO control. She'll get up just fine, infact easier from what i've experience with my girlfriends switch. And honeslty, the cheaper bindings are usually the ones the have a more versitile fit because the nicer ones are usually stiffer and taller.

IF she can get up at all, the larger board will not affect this. If anythign, it will make getting up easier if she uses proper technique.

In the past i have ridden larger boards, 142s, 144s... but after dropping 30lbs I just purchased a 135 (now down to 205lbs). When teaching smaller people to ride, they would come up super fast on these boards and ride very high in the water. Made things much easier to learn.

Where she will have issues is in board control. She will have a lot of swing weight to deal with if she starts trying to do tricks. When both get to that level, they are probably going to have individual riding styles and prefer very different boards. So, be prepared to upgrade both when that time comes.

Your biggest issue may not be the board size at all... but in the bindings. I would image their feet are very different sizes, and it will be very difficult to get bindings to fit both. Proper sized bindings are very important! They can either help prevent or help cause injury.

Also, you do not need a 130+cm board. See above... I am 205 and ride a 135 and at 235 I took a set on a 138 with no issues. I would look in the 120-130 range in kids boards. He will grow out of it, and she will grow into it if nether latches onto the sport and you have to buy 2 different ones... you will eventually have to buy a new one for your son when he fill outs some more.

I have oversized kids as well, 8 and 10. No way I'm wasting money on a kid's board that I likely won't be able to sell. The odd time you catch them super cheap in the middle of winter on clearance, that's the only time I'd consider it.

They both fit my wife's 135cm board with size 7 - 9 bindings anyway.
