5.0L Mercruiser, 305, 1998 Baja Sidewinder, Delco Starter<br /><br />Am trying to rewire the delco starter. The tape that id'd each wire has come off and I am starting from scratch. Wired to best of Selco Manual and Mercruiser manual - actually not very helpful. <br />When I hooked up the battery, the positive was fine but as soon as the negative battery cable started getting close to the post, the engine wants to start and there are lots of sparks! (ouch). And the keys are not even in the ignition.... <br />If there a wiring diagram for blonde dummies? Also have looked at other boats, they haven't been helpful either.<br /><br />I can send pictures (I took them so I would be able to do this) if it would be helpful.<br /><br />My brothers don't think I am capable of this because I am female. <br />Thanks.
