Today is the day of passage for my son. I'm proud and scared for him all at the same time. I know he's ready for it, I believe I've trained him well. Today is the day he gets his drivers license. He's fifteen and a half and here in Mississippi you can get your license at that age if you have a job and have made the honor roll in school. He's got both. I remember when I got my license.....Freedom is within his reach! ! ! No more deppending Mamma and Daddy or friends for rides. Yall be thinkin bout me.

I went thru that 3 times EF with 3 girls

I know one thing that has helped them though and that was to tech them to drive stick shifts.

That way they would have no problems in driving anything.

I know insurance was cheaper too :D

Good luck and I'll be thinking about you.

And praying for you. :p

5 times for me (four girls, one boy).. Lots of fights over going hither and yon, insurance, traffic tickets, car wrecks, car maintainence (with the girls, anyway), priorities, and "friends borrowing" it.
{enter Sigh here}.
They all must spread thier wings and make some test-flights. Regardless of failure or success, the most important thing to both you and him, is responsablity shifts from you to him, and you both do what he can afford, or do not do it.
In other words, "Son, it's your life, your car, and you can do whatever you want. buit allways ask yourself those perpetual questions; 'Do I really want to do this?' and 'can I really afford to do this?' It's part of becomming the adult you allways wanted to be."

Good luck , and my prayers are for both of you.

wow it is the same here in West Virginia! But when you go to apply for the test you need your Birth certificate., your moms and dads Birth certificate, two parent signatures, one parent with you, a not from the school, a letter signed by the county school guy, and your social security card!!! What did youhave to bring to get him his license?

Insturance went up for sure but not as much as I thought. I put him in a 1986 model toyota 4X4 truck standard shift that I bought new. Told the insurance company that he was the primary driver of that vehicle and would only drive our other two 5% of the time. my rate went up $100 a month. I don't think that too bad. If he keeps his nose clean and doesn't get any tickets and stays on the honor roll at school it will come down next year. They didn't say by how much.

He's a good driver I trust him. He's already learned to back a trailer, can handle pull out of the boat ramp with a standard shift. I'm confident that he's going to be fine.

Sloopy, all he had to have when he went to take his driving test to get his license was 1 parent, his report card, a note from his employer and have his learners permit with him. He did have to have a birth certificate when he took his written test for his learners permit. That was it.
