Hello All,

I Want to install a 8-HP kicker motor on my fishing boat it is a long shaft 22.5 inches, but if I install it on the place where it should be on the transom the cavitation plate is above the bottom line of the hull, the propeller is in line with the bottom, so if I use it only for trolling do you see any problem if only the prop shaft is in line with bottom ? I don't want to buy a bracket and drill more holes in transom.

Thanks

Smoky :)

Tried to post for you earlier today, but a sleet and hail storm came thru and I lost my satellite connection for awhile.

You should be ok, not optimal, but ok.
If your backtroll, it will make little difference.

The most important thing is to make sure your water pickup holes are below the waterline.

Smokyforce
As long as the waterpump in in water when you start should be ok. Just remember waterpump will not suck up water if above the water. So after you start make sure you get water output and you should be fine.

It will work good in foward gear. Where it might not work too well is in reverse. Prop thrust in reverse will hit the boat and slow down normal reverse speed. Trolling down stream if get hung up may need to turn around instead of backing against current.

If you fish in ocean or waters with large swells prop may brake out of water as swells pass by. No harm at adle speed but at higher speeds can cause motor to over rev and when motor drops back in can brake flywheel keyway.

Thank you guys !

I realize that I didn't give you much info - I fish most of the time in fresh water in northern lakes - water is most of the time not rough and this is only my kicker - the main motor is a 75-HP

I will try it as soon it's warm enough outside and will let you know

Many Thanks again

Smoky ;)
