i have a 1999 25 hp mercury and when i give it gas it goes dead, but i can idle all day. is it just junk in the carburetor? if so what is the best way to fix the problem? or could it be something else?

Re: needs advice

We need more history here, 2 stroke or 4. Ran last year not this one. Are there long storage issues... etc. When it dies does it just die or is there a slower run out of gas dead? Any specific throttle position or RPM? Can you squeeze the bulb or choke (fuel enrichment switch) it to make it run?

Re: needs advice

this is balford2, and it is a 2 stroke. i have only had it for about three months now, and it didnt seem to do this when i bought it. i could only give it just a little bit of gas before going dead. and when i choked it, it ran little bit faster than on idle.
