I have a 1985 tempest v6 3.8...800 omc drive......The other day,on the water, I noticed the shifter moving past center, backwards.Reverse should be there..and she went in forward motion( hit wharf a bit hard) Thought reverse was there...SO...Found all the info on setting up interupter switch..and the other one...First Question..When in gear do both plunger's have to be depressed..becauce my interupter plunger can only be depressed in forward...Reverse has no lobe to depress plunger

What Im reading is that while in reverse and forward , the boat should not start in gear...this means that the plunger should be depressed while in any gear...2 lobes

I found a shifter on line ..and it had 2 lobes.....2nd Question...why do my part only have 1 lobe for forward ??? THIS IS CONFUSING.....looks like a stock part..

Right now..the hole thing is disconnect, and i straighted out cables(may have been problem earlyer not going in reverse) Put boat in water and shifted forward and reverse a few times (all was good)little grinding noice while shifting.but still shifted...
not hooked up.
Should I try and set up this Interupter switch...I will have to fool with it a bit..seens things ane not really lineing up .. maybe stretched cables in lower end...but I think I can do it,,,if i move plunger assembly 1/4 inch I can do the set up prcedure..and get it working..but only in forward...WHAT DO I DO...Help...lol
