Netbook or Tablet tough decision

I was looking at getting a netbook or tablet. I would just be using it to browse the internet, do internet research, and sending e-mails.

I am weary of the touch tablets because when I type an e-mail, I want to be able to type an e-mail and with those tablets I'm just concerned that typing is not as efficient on the tablet.

Any suggestions or input on either?

Well,
If you like the tactile feeling of real keys, and want to save your self some cash then go with the netbook.

We (gf and I) have a Dell netbook we got for free (yeah right) for signing out life away for 2 years with Comiecast. We usually leave it somewhere next to one of the couches in the living room for no effort Internet access. Not exactly a powerhouse, but serves all the purposes you listed.

I have been debating the same thing. I like the ipad, but the screen is small like a netbook.
The ipad can link up with a blue tooth keyboard, or if you get the camera bundle, it will hook up usb. As much as I dislike apple, I think they finally have a product worthy of trying.

That is unless you want to browse a site that uses Java Scripting or play your games on Facebook (or any other site that uses Adobe Flash). Unless you jailbreak it. Rumor has it that this does not void the warranty, just reset to factory and voila'. We got an iPad through work to "test" in an Enterprise environment. It works great for games and Apps that you buy from the itunes store. Other than that, it isn't as "great" as sliced bread, IMO.
I am interested in looking at the Motorola XOOM though. Supposedly, it is going to do all the things the iPad won't. We'll see.

The tablets are very cool but I think I'd wait before getting one. The prices are still too high and will be dropping as more players enter the market. Conversly, netbooks are DIRT cheap. $200 should get you a pretty nice one. I have an Acer AspireOne. Works pretty well. I did have an issue with the hard drive and had to reinstall the operating system. Since it doesn't have an optical drive I ended up just downloading Ubuntu Linux netbook edition and installing it off a thumb drive. Holy crap is that awesome! It runs so much better than it did with Windows on it.

Ubuntu makes a netbook version. Man that pretty much sealed the deal right there. Thanks for the replies. I will be getting the Acer Aspire One with the longer battery life (supposedly).

Get the MOTO XOOM...hands down the most powerful one on the market right now. Just google it VS the silly Ipad once.

We have a couple thousand netbooks in our school district. The atom processors are getting more powerful and will do everything you need for what you've listed. The batteries also last forever on a charge compared to most other portable devices.

I have a HP netbook and love it. So easy to carry and use. Only problem is I do not like the &^%#$# scratch mouse thingy...... So I fixed that by getting a wireless mouse and everything is fine. Problem with scratch mouse is if (or when) you barely get near it with thumb or whatever you can lose everything or will disappear and you have to start over. With the wireless mouse the scratch pad is disconnected so it eliminates any problems. I also have a desktop and laptop but the netbook is really great and sooooo there when you need it. I would buy another one any time, if needed.
