So, a new issue came up. I have a 1988 OMC 2.3 and when I go to shift it forward it hits the neutral safety switch and kills it right away.

Is there an adjustment that I can make for this?

Neutral safety switch should just be disabling the starter... not cutting ignition.

ok, maybe i I am not describing the right part. it is the micro switch at the end of the shift cable. As soon as im in gear and start to apply throttle it shuts off.

the dogs at the end of the shift cable hit the mirco switch.

Ayuh,.... I ain't sure 'bout these OMCs, but that symptom with a Merc says the lower shift cable, from that switch to the drive, needs to be replaced,....

You are likely hitting the switch that operates the ESA. It should never do that while going into gear. If it does, it means your lower shift cable is binding and needs to be replaced. You can test to see if it is indeed the ESA by doing a simple test. Unplug the ESA and try to shift into gear. Of course it will be almost impossible to shift out of gear so do this either on muffs or out on the water away from everyone.
