Neutral safety switch

Does anyone know if the Volvo Penta remotes have so called neutral safety switch? I have a 2007 4.3GXi with EVC and so on but I haven't ever tried if it doesn't crank if you turn ignition while in gear? If it has such a feature, could anyone share what the wire looks like behind the handle?

Ayuh,.... The neutral safety switch is in 'bout every controller built,......

It's the tiny switch inside the control, with usually a yellow/ red wire in, 'n out,.....

My OMC throttle control on my 1999 Chris Craft w/ Volvo Penta SX looks like this....
The red arrow is pointing to where the switch is - in the image its right behind and beneath the metal bracket. Like Bondo said, usually has two conductors leading to it with spade connectors. I was able to reach the wires on my boat by reaching through a storage compartment where I could access the verty front of the throttle control. The cables ran towards the stern. Basically the switch itself rides a detent - when the throttle is pushed forward or back the switch rocks open/closed. You can temporarily test the functionality of the switch by splicing the wires and seeing if the boat will start.

Ayuh,...... It interrupts the starter circuit, not the ignition circuit,.....

Neutral switch only keeps the starter from operating, so it won't crank.

Yup. It sure does. Won’t turn it over if in gear. Worth a mention that I once found out that my old 1989 VP AQ205a and 290DP had its interlock disconnected. Just a thought.

Planning to use that as a antitheft device. Will poke into the existing wire and run a parallel line hidden in the belly of the boat. Ofcourse not bulletproof against pro's but it's just "walk away case" against random wonderers.

you would be better off removing the dizzy rotor or coil wire or Fuel relay if you are worried about theft.

realistically, those that steal boats look for the ones with keys left in the ignition or the ones on a trailer much easier to back up to a boat, hook on and go.

Are many boats stolen where you plan on slipping?

Don't leave anything in the boat you treasure and insure the boat and contents.
