I've "inherited" a small boat from a deceased relatives wife. Has no i.d. plate or name on hull. Found an old registration card in it. Says it's a "Cadorett" or Catorette" (hard to read) Also looks like the year is stated as 1968. Interestng little boat (12 ft); has a true cathdral hull and the fiberglass seems pretty thick. It's in nice shape. Questions: I can't find any info on this mfgr. Out of business? Did they make good boats? Don't see cathedral hulls on newer boats. Drawbacks? Is this an efficient hull design? How much h.p. will I need to get up on a plane?<br />Thanks for any info!

Re: Never heard of this make.

A cathdral hull is basicaly a Tri Hull. I used to have a 16 foot Cobia Tri Hull. Never heard of your manufacturer. I used a 1981 70 HP Johnson to push my Cobia and it did well. It had enoough power to pull a skier. I mostly used the boat for bay fishing and it pounded some in choppy water but was solid. I had her outside the bay a few times and ran her through some real messy stuuf, 6 foot rollers with chop and she was fine. I currently run a 20 foot Renken and I would choose the 16 foot Cobia over the Renken all day long. Only reason I use the Renken is it is basically a free boat and I wont take it offshore.

Cathedral hulls have a lot of wetted surface and consequently, a lot of friction. On the plus side, they are more stable. Since yours is only 12', my guess would be that you can plane it off with a 25HP. A bigger motor would be nice, but only to the point where the boat is not overpowered and dangerous.

Is it a Cadorette? If so, I don't know if they are still in business, but they were made in Quebec (I think!).

Re: Never heard of this make.

Cadorette boats were made in Quebec through to the mid 90's. When Thudercraft Boats, also of Quebec ran into trouble about the same time, Cadorette took over and continued to manufacture boats from about 16' through 30' under the name "Thundercraft by Cadorette." The next boat company in Quebec facing financial difficulty was also taken over by the owners of Cadorette and that company's brand is the only one still in existance today "Doral International."
