Book says 100 to 1 after break in. Is this what everyone is doing?. Seems a little weak compared to my old 1979 15 Evinrude.

Any comments welcome.

I would carry on mixing it 50:1 regardless of what the manual say ......

I would also run the 50:1. You could run some seafoam yearly to clear things up.

Does anyone think the 100:1 is to comply with emissions? Seems 50:1 is the safer bet!

no idea why they come up with 100:1 .... could be the only way for you to get the motor to die quicker, because a yamaha never dies .... maybe yamaha don't make enough money cause they have such a reliable motor that you never have to replace them ......

Re: New 15 Yahama Oil mixture

My Dad had a 1989 Yamaha for 15 years that said run 100:1, we always ran it at about 80:1 and never had any problems. That motor always ran great and started with half a pull. We used the motor mostly for trolling and only ran wide open to our fishing spots.

I would say run it at 80:1 unless you plan on running wide open all the time. That motor was a great motor though. I bought a newer 50HP Johnson and comparing the 2 motors I would take a Yamaha in a second.

My Dad actually just a bought a 2008 6HP Yamaha and he plans on running around 80:1 after break in.

But like said above I doubt running it at 50:1 will do any harm if you feel more comfortable with that. I troll with my Johnson 2 stroke all day and never have problems with plugs fouling.
