New(1977) Boat Maintenance

I just bought a used Merc 228 on a 19ft Cuddy Cabin, I haven't run it on water yet, but I was wondering what maintenance I should do to keep it running good. I don't know the status as far as winterizing, but the oil appears clean and full. But I'm thinking about changing the oil and oil filter, the fuel filter. What maintenance is required on the gearbox/outboard portion of the motor. BTW I already greased the zerks on the exposed hydrolics.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

hi jaybob,
ya might take a look at the summerization and winterization threads in the adults only sticky at the top of the i/o fourm. there's lots of items referred to in them that can be checked out.. you can also get the proper manual from that sticky. in it you'll find preventive maint. items and their intervals of inspection.
