New 60 Bigfoot losing power

Our '04 Bigfoot 60 over the weekend lost about 50% power. It has maybe 4 or so hours on it total. While running WOT it run cut back to about 50% dropping RPM's to about 3500 and wouldn't idle very good. It remained that way till we got it loaded back on the trailer. There were no warnings. All guages looked normal. Out dealer says it checked out fine and can't find anything wrong with it, but the only way to be sure is to take it to the lake and put it under a load, which I agree but they have the nerve to tell me it costs 75.00 for a lake test thats NOT covered under warranty. I think it's a ripoff since they whole rig is practically brand new. At any rate, has anyone experienced this kind of problem before? I don't mind taking it out myself but I know whats going to happen, it's going to run the same way and I'm going to blow a fuse at the dealership.
Any suggestions?

Re: New 60 Bigfoot losing power

Just an update. After my dealer made 3 trips to the lake without being able to diagnosis the problem a factory rep was called in. They called today finally with an answer. The powerhead is fried and a broken reed. I was told this isn't the first instance of this happening on this particular motor.
I'm still pretty upset as with just a couple hours and 1 tank of gas on a new motor this is what I get. It will be at least another week before it's repaired making it 3 weeks with no boat.
I wonder if Mercury Marine would like to pay this months note! :)
I guess I should be happy they found the problem, but also makes me wonder *IF* it's going to happen again. Warranty or not, downtime is equally important to me.

just a question, do new smaller motor (by smaller i mean less than 250 hp) come from the factory already having undergone the breakin period?

New motors don't come broken in. After the dealer replaced the powerhead on mine, I had to go through the breakin procedure all over again.

Took the boat out last night after getting it back Thursday. It still will only run at 4700 rpm's and dies alot. I don't have a clue to whats still wrong but it's not the motor it was when we got it. I'm not willing to wait another 3 weeks while they diagnois whats wrong.

Maybe it's selfish on my part, but I think the factory should replace it. I know anything can turn out to be a lemon and I believe that's what I've got. All the while the season is slipping away.
