OK here is the story, so i had a working motor before i towed it 4 hours to the river. As every 2 stroke ive ever been around it was finicky on starting up till it got warmed up once it got warmed and out on the water it ran for about 5 minutes and then we could only get half rpm. Our controller isn't in the best shape so i figured it was that and ran for about 10-15 minutes only getting 2800 ish rpm until we could find a sand bar. Once beached we popped her open and after some inspection saw that the bottom carb linkage had popped off so after popping that back in we celebrated and my passenger had a few beverages thinking that was it. Now on leaving the outboard would idle but when trying to give it power would bog and die. Basically we limped in starting and starting and floating.

I had hoped we just fouled 2 that unhooked carbs plugs for that side bank but by the time we got in we couldnt inspect anything had to drive the 4 hrs home so im going back out this weekend

my first round of fixing is to replace all spark plugs and i am going to buy all new coils and wires.

After some research it seams that coils and wires can cause this issue after everything gets hot and specially cause they are all original and one coil does have a crack in the plastic so i know they are old and weathered so cant hurt
I have also read that it could be bad power packs but those being like $80 a piece i hope my first round of fixing works

Does it sound like i am on the right track ? what other causes can create the symptoms i have. And i apologize For the long story.

Well, to fix you can do it one of two ways.

Way #1. Keep throwing parts at it.

Way #2. Follow these steps.

1. Compression test. report results.

2. Open air gap spark check set @ 7/16". Report results.

3. Fuel sample into a clear jar. Report results.

Someone will give you the rest of the steps after you answer ALL three questions.

Good luck, people are here to help.
