Guys - I have a 2001 Tracker v16 Pro boat - doesn't have a motor - it does have a side console steering - and does have the original control box and starting / steering cables - the original motor was a 2001 Merc 40 HP - does anyone know if the new merc 9.9 engines will work with my controls both steering and elect start etc ? How can I tell if it will work - I can save the cash on the control box, cables etc if it works - or go to a diff motor and diff controls - unless they sell some type of conversion kit for a diff motor ? like Honda or Yamaha ?

the 40 has the tilt tube for the steering cable, i believe you will need a transom mount for the steering cable, and correct link arm for the motor. have no idea on the controls.
