Ok so i bought a new boat and i took it out a few times on the lake to test her and she ran beautifully and so did the engine. I pulled the plug to make sure she wasn't leaking and nothing comes out soooo i am thinking Great i have a sweet boat and a sweet running engine. I get it home and where i store my boat is at a slight angle and i pull the plug like i always do to let rain water pour out. I go back a couple hours later and i see oil like sludge dripping out of my plug hole? What the hell is this? Am i being just to paranoid? My oil container is not leaking! At least its not dripping out of my motor:p

any thoughts???

start out by cleaning the bilge out as good as you can to see if it something left over from the previous owner,or an on going problem.if you clean the bilge before you use it again you will know.

Get some simple green or even dawn dish detergent. Put your plug in place and add water to the bilge with a strong mix of either solution. Many people do it before they go out with a couple of gallons of water and run the boat for the agitation...... then drain.

There are some boat owners who used to change their oil by letting it drain into the bilge and catching it outside the boat by the drain plug.

It's good practice to keep it cleaned out. ;)

If the oil resevoir is hard to get at while filling you might have just had some sloppy filling by someone and it spilled over into the bilge...I know on mine if I dont use a funnel and a hose its impossible to get oil in without spilling it everywhere......clean it as suggested above.

How old is this boat?

Is it oily? Or is it mulchy? Stick your finger in the hole and turn it all the way around....can you feel wet wood?

I've seen people mistake transom rot drippings for other things.....
