Just found this web site . . .

Marine | See Dealer Cost

Looks to have dealer invoice prices for new boats, etc.

So, I checked out a Formula 310 . . . MSRP $227,000 . . . Dealer cost $142,000 (62% of MSRP  ).

When I was at the New England Boat Show this week, I noticed that the MSRP of boats seemed to be higher than ever :noidea: . . .

Here is what the show prices looked like . . .

Have you ever bought a new boat? When I bought my bayliner the dealer showed me a MSRP of 96K and sold it to me for 68K. I think this is pretty common. When I was looking at a searay at Marine Max they showed me the invoice for $110K and after discounts it was 78K

You will never know what the true "Dealer Cost" is unless you have someone on the "inside". Dealer cost varies depending on the type and number of boats the dealer takes delivery off. Like car dealers, if you take delivery of 100 Chevy Impalas in one common color you get a better rate than another dealer that takes only 10. Manufacturers like to run an assembly line that doesn't need change over of any sort. To run one red, one black, one green, 5 pink vehicles is certainly easier than it used to be but nevertheless, more efficient when "batch runs" are made. MSRP as mentioned is just a number for the window sticker. The difference between what the dealer actually paid for the boat minus what he sells it for is the margin. That is why big dealers can generally provide a better deal than a smaller dealer. However, the smaller dealer has less overhead cost so even though he has less buying power than the large dealer, they can make the same or slightly better deal. In the end, it pays to shop smartly.

I think this whole thing with MSRP's being so high and well beyond what anyone actually pays is riduculous . . .

It seems that the boat companies could lower their MSRP's by 25% and still be above what the dealers end up selling the boats for. . . so the "$96K" boat that sold for $68K could really be priced at $74K and still sell for $68K, and it would be 12% under MSRP . . .

Yea, I bought my kid a Toyota at 'Ernie Boch' in 2008 . . . gas was $4.50/gallon and up . . . small, fuel efficient cars were selling as they came off the production line . . . paid through the nose

The year before, I bought the other kid a Honda from 'Herb Chambers' . . . during the dead of winter . . . got it for less than "dealer invoice" . . . I did use 'Ernie' to beat 'Herb' down though . . . did it all over the phone.

And very few people on the inside know the actual cost, because even what the dealer pays for the car doesn't include other incentives and rebates that are made behind closed doors and booked elsewhere.

Agree, but I think it all comes down to human nature and sales tactics... Even if the final price is the same, most people would feel like they got a better deal with a $28K discount, opposed to a $6K discount.

If I told you that I'm sure you would try to reverse engineer the warp system there for altering the space time continuum and we all know what happens when we do that.

It looks like the dealer sold it pretty much at 'invoice' , based on the web site's numbers. I'm sure they got some hold-back money or something as well.
