I got a new boat with a 2006 Volvo penta 5.0 gxi. I took it out to the lake and noticed one riser was slightly hotter. So I figured I would inspect some things, it has a new impeller. In the thermostat housing I found old impeller stuck in the port to the hot riser. Anyhow the boat came out of California (Shasta area) and I don't no if it was ever in salt water. I removed the risers and they have rust but it is just service rust and clean up with a screwdriver black to fresh cast. I have included pics for the pros to let me know.

I don't see a problem, they look fine for the time they have on them. Its good you found the piece of the impeller but it is also normal for one exhaust elbow to be a bot hotter then the other. That said, the bit hotter will keep you from keeping your hand on it but will not immediately burn you
