As the title says I am a new boater and I'm having performance issues with my new boat, the following are the specs on the boat (to the best of my ability)

2004 Crownline 220 CCR 22' cuddy cabin, 5.0 MPI Mercruiser, Mercruser outdrive (not sure which one),I think the prop is a21p aluminum, 60 gal fuel tank and 10 gal fresh water tank, trim tabs, top speed as per gps is 37 mph, it runs at around 3000 rpm at full throttle, 350 hours on boat, boat used on relatively calm lake

With that said I'm having a problem with the power of the boat, with 2 average (or slightly below) adults and one child on the boat the only way I can get the boat to plain off is to use the trim tabs to force the bow into the water and with 4 adults and 2 children, 2 coolers it feels like I'm dragging the anchor around and the only way it will plain is to put some people in the cabin of the boat (and that was with less than quarter tank of fuel) and it took a whole to finally get it going. So my question is does this seem normal for this boat and keeping in mind I really don't want to lose any top end what should I look for or what can I do to increase performance? And I'm having one more issue with the boat, it sometimes stalls when shifting the transmission usually while docking (not good). Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated..

The 5.0 should push your boat a bit faster. The boat was designed to plane without tabs. Should get more than 3000 at WOT. Motor should not stall when shifting. 1st question-- did you have a compression check done before purchase?

Confirm the tachometer is correct (37mph at only 3000 rpms doesn't sound exactly right)
Confirm the outdrive model (Alpha 1 or Bravo 1)
Confirm the outdrive gear ratio
Confirm the prop pitch

Next, is the bottom of the boat particularly dirty? Is the prop damaged?

Sounds like you're way overpropped. Wide Open Throttle (WOT) should be somewhere in the 4500-4800 rpm range. When you have to much pitch on your prop you're not allowing the boat to reach it's full potential, or there is some other problem limiting the horsepower of the engine. I hope you don't take offense but you should take it to a professional to get their opinion. Where did you buy it?
