One thing needs to be mentioned along with Bamaman's list of things to do to a new you boat and very important one...
Change the impeller. These things require changing every other year and you don't know when it was changed last.
If you don't use your boat, like tires that sit, they get a set in the rubber and loose efficiency and you will overheat. If you use your boat they wear out. Not hard to do yourself or about $150 plus parts (about $25-$35) at a shop.
The 3.0 is a good solid engine BUT you must take care of it, change oil, don't overheat or freeze. If you do this it will last a long time, if you do not take care of it it will puke on you big time.

Yep, changing impellers is really important. The part's just $25-30, and they can be easily changed within an hour. It's nothing an good shade tree owner/mechanic cannot do himself.

Changing the lower unit lube yearly is also very important. Penalty for overlooking this is a $2K+ lower unit replacement. Even older used lower units pull $1,100 on the used market. It's just $6 for a quart of Pennzoil lower unit lube, and a 30 minute job.

Had a full annual maintenance done last week. Did all the fluids, checked all the bellows, new impeller, seals, grease input shaft and gimbal bearing etc etc. Also did a rebuild on the carb. it was pretty gummed up from the gas. Im slowly learning how fuel I will need on a day out so as to not come home with so much gas in the tank. I also did a ton of other small things on the boat and trailer. I thought I had her all fixed up..... but nooooo. After a few hours on the lake, I found that the bilge pump wouldn't switch on. I was on the water for 6 hours and we were climbing in and out of the boat dripping wet and at the end of the day had maybe a little less then a gallon of water in the bilge. Once home I found the fuse was blown. I swapped in another fuse and it blew right away. The pump is likely locked up. My next big question is how in the heck do you get to it? Its right under the motor with very little room around it under the hatch.

Remove whatever ya can in yer way, 'n Reach,... ;)

Chances are it snaps into a bracket, hard part is findin' the 2 release clips,....

Ya might wanta start a new thread in the Boatin' forum,...

Yer well past the Prop issue now....
