I put the new Rochester 2bl carb on this morning using a new gasket (the thicker Mercruiser gasket) not the one the carb people sent me which is more like paper thickness, and when I started it up the EXACT same thing happened when I put the new carb on two months ago.( that I sent back because I thought it was bad) It was running really rich, soot in the water. Choke was closed on start up and opened properly as it warmed up, but still smoke, and rough. At proper operating temp I ajusted the needle screws on the bottom, as there are two on the Rochester. As I gently seated each (one at a time) it made no real difference in engine. I brought them both out 1.5 turns and still runs and smokes bad.
Any ideas are very much appreciated.........Rick
ps: I am using the specified Mercruiser gaskets, and Adapter # 807726A2 which is about 1/2" thick
Is it possible that I should just be using the thin gasket that came with the carb directly on the manifold??
