My better half got me a great present recently, but now I have to intall them. The present is an ICOM 422 radio and a Garmin GPSMAP 512 w/ fish finder. The hard part is going to be mounting the sonar for the fish finder. I have to run the cable for the transducer to the back of the boat.

The boat is a Rinker 230 Atlantic with the optional swim platform. I bought the boat used or I wouldn't have gotten the swim platform.

Has anyone tried to do something similar? How do I get the cable from the transducer to the interior of the boat from the exterior of the hull? Once inside I can route the wires where I need to. Can I use the old mounting holes from where the ladder used to be? This is the location of the ladder without the optional swim platform. That way the cable entry point would be above the water line.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: New electronics

Generally, you'd have to drill a hole thru the transom and complete the wiring to the front. Drill the hole one size larger than the cable, treat the hole with 3M 5200 and wait for it to cure. Apply a chrome clamshell fitting over the cable on the exterior and add a bit more 5200 to seal. That's all there is to it.
