Just bought a new Sea Ray with 4.3L V-6, 190 HP I think its a two barrel. Has the Mercury Thunderbolt ignition. Alpha 1 outdrive. Manufacturer says 20 hour break in period. The first 10 hours must be above 1500RPM but do not stay at a constant speed/rpm for extended length of time? Does this mean I am supposed to just keep revving up and down for 10 hours? What about pullling skiers/Tubers? Is this Ok?

What is the best procedure for break in to insure a long running engine and seat the rings?

Re: New engine break in help?

It means vary your speed a bit. No long hauls at a steady speed. This prevents certain harmonic wear patterns that can occur. Go ahead and use it for skiing and tubing, but avoid full throttle once you're planed out. Different skiers and different tubers prefer different speeds. This would suffice for varying the throttle. Go ahead and pull them at a good steady speed because they're not going to be doing it all that long at a time.
