Ok I picked up a new boat and started getting into the engine found out the block was bad so I took the heads and exhaust into the machine shop to see if I could save them. Thinking I could just get a new block do a valve job and reuse most my old parts IE crank rods ETC.
Well the machine shop just called me to let me know one of the heads is cracked and one of the exhaust manifolds is cracked. So the shortage of parts continues to get bigger.
At this point in time I am short a starter, alternator, heads, exhaust, block. The Distributor and Carb are in pretty sad shape too.
It is a 1979 Formula 233 cuddy with a mercruiser 228 (5.0l) serial number 4929438. I am planning on going to a 350 (5.7l) my question is from experience would I have better luck just buying a turn key engine or a long block and piecing it all back together. Any resources any one has for this project would be greatly appreciated especially if they are in the Pensacola Fl or Mobile area. I would order from the web too but im sure freight on an engine isn'
